The Pirate King - Sketchabilities # 105

This time of year it seems near impossible to get pages completed before the challenge deadline. I missed out on the last Sketchabilities challenge so here's hoping I've got this one completed in time.

Here's the sketch that the page was based on ...
 And this is the page...
The photo I've used is from our combined birthday party this year which had a Pirate theme, Jonno went as the Pirate Captain and I was dressed as his Wench ... complete with long blond wig!

Once again I've raided my stash of old papers for this page as well as adding some embossing and inking to the pennants at the bottom of the photo.
The title has been cut on the Cricut using the "Black Letter" cartridge, I've then covered the letters with Ranger Crackle Accents to give it a crazy cracked look. The mask is Kaisercraft "Cogs" which I've sprayed with Glimmermist "Black Magic" & "Iridescent Gold". The gold chain and coins are from the bracelet I brought to wear as part of the costume ... and what do you do with jewellery you brought for a costume but will never wear again???? You use it on the page of the party photos!!!

Well, thats all for now. Thanks for stopping by.

Kaye :-)

Xmas Kiss - Sketchabilities #104

This page is based on the Sketchabilities sketch #104, unfortunately I didn't get this page finished in time to enter it but I was pleased with the end result so I decided to post it anyway.

This is the sketch I used ...
And here's my take on it...

The photo I've used was taken at "Slobberfest" the Bulldog fun day on 1 December 2012. Skye and Jay were 9 & 8 weeks old respectively. Skye had been with us for two weeks but we'd only brought Jay home two days before.

I've used corrugated cardboard box from a box we received parts in (much to my husbands amusement), I've then painted it with Gesso. I've used a mask and clear ink, then covered it with green embossing powder. The paper is an old Basic Grey Christmas range.

The snow flakes are Dusty Attic chipboard that I've painted white and then covered them with "Diamond Dust". The small leaves and berries was a little chipboard piece I had from somewhere that I've embossed with green and purple embossing powder. The flowers and leaves were just ones I had in my stash from various sources.

Well .... I better go and work on the next challenge so that its done in time to enter.

Thanks for stopping by.

Cheers,

Kaye

You Are My Happy Place - OUAS November Challenge

This month over at Once Upon A Sketch they had a gorgeous sketch with the theme of "My Happy Place". Having just gotten married on the 1 November I was inspired to use a photo of my husband and I taken by one of my friends ..... I should warn you in advance .... be prepared for lots of pages featuring wedding photos over the next few months!!! Sorry!

Anyhoo ... this is the sketch that provided the inspiration ...
And here's my take on it....
As a base I've used kaisercraft "Base coat - Paper Bricks" and then coordinated it with an older Bo Bunny paper from my stash. Add in some yummy Dusty Attic chipboard and some flowers for extra effect...
I've combine my title into part of the journalling ...
While the rest of the journalling is hidden on a tag under the flowers that can be pulled out like this...
Well, that's all for now, thanks for stopping by.

Until next time,

Kaye :-)

Cool, Calm & Collected ... NOT! - 1-2-3 Challenge Blog (November Challenge)

This months challenge over at 1-2-3 Challenge Blog, was a real challenge. I loved the colour and the technique but using the word "Cool" was doing my head in, until I saw some photos taken by my friend last week while I was getting ready for my wedding ... and inspiration struck! But before I show you my page I'll show you the challenge for November ...
And here's my page entitled "Cool, Calm & Collected"....
The paper I've used is Kaisercraft "Secret Admirer" which I've cut out and mounted with liquid scrap dots.

The flourish under the scroll as well as the butterflies are Kaisercraft stamps which have been stamped onto acetate using Stazon Ink and then cut out.

The butterfly at the top left hand side also has the same butterfly stamped on a book page and cut out then doubled up to add dimension.

The scroll contains the journaling and is tied with a piece of ribbon from the bridesmaids dresses. The journaling reads:

"These photos of me taken on the 1 November captures so many of my emotions. This is the day that I was to marry my childhood friend & other half of me. Born two days apart in the same hospital, our lives have crossed many times over our 37 years but finally we are waking life's path side by side.

It was the most special of days and although my father and siblings chose not to be there my true "family" were once again by my side.

Well that's all for now, thanks for stopping by.

Until next time,

Kaye :-)

Sketchabilities #101 - Mr & Ms Claus

They say necessity is the mother of all invention and this page is evidence of that. I had seen the latest sketch from Sketchabilities and loved it, I wanted to use some photos from xmas last year. Friday night I was getting my gear together to go scrapping and discovered that I'd run out of photo paper and couldn't print the photos I wanted to use. After a bit of thinking I remembered that a while ago I'd brought some sheets of canvas to try printing photos on canvas so I decided to give it a go and they actually turned out really well.

Anyway, back to the Sketchabilities sketch, this is the latest ...
And here's my take on it ...
I was trying to make the photos look like pictures on the mantel piece. I've used one of the latest paper ranges from Kaisercraft called "Gingerbread Collection" I loved the colours and the patterns on the paper.

The frames around the photos are two different Kaisercraft stamps, I stamped them on to white card stock and then heat embossed silver embossing powder. The candle holder and candles are cut from Cricut card stock using the Cricut "Christmas" cartridge and then sprayed with different Glimmermist sprays.

I'm on a mission to try and include more jouralling in my layouts and on this one the journalling is hidden. I've written it on a little slide that can be pulled out from under the main part of the layout.

The journalling says:

"Christmas 2012 Irene brought a Santa & Mrs Claus outfit Jonno &  I to wear, only problem being the Mrs Claus outfit was a very small size 8 which I didn't fit so Jacinta wore it instead. She looked very cute and Jonno did a great job as Santa ... compete with a bottle of Hahn Super Dry left by a kinda little girl."

Well that's all for now, thanks for stopping by,
Until next time,

Kaye :-)

1-2-3 Get Srappy - Home is Wherever You Are

1 2 3 Get Scrappy  have a very interesting concept for their challenges, they provide a challenge board and you use a row across, down, or diagonally. This is the challenge board for this month ...
I chose to go down the left side - Chipboard - Flowers - More than 3 photos.

And here is my take on the challenge board ....

I've heat embossed the chipboard circle and the chipboard word with Enamel over red ink. Then I've used copper powder on the little chipboard flowers.

The journalling is a little hard to read in the photo but it says:

"My babies, Skye, Jay & Tux.
Skye is the princess and rules the roost.
Jay is the clown and has earned the name "the Great White"
because he is so food driven.
And then there's our beautiful foster fail Tux, the shadow
whose cheeky personality is growing more & more"

Well, that's all for now, thanks for stopping by.
Until next time,

Kaye :-)

Once Upon a Sketch - October Challenge

I'm loving all the challenge sites out there at the moment, they are definitely helping me find my mojo again. A couple of my friends have been doing the challenges from Once Upon a Sketch , it's a great challenge site with a sketch and journaling requirement for each challenge. I've looked at their challenges before but this is the first time I've given one a try. This is the sketch for October, with a journalling theme of : "The Journey..."
This is my take on the sketch... "My Journey Lead Me to You"
Heres a little close up ...
I'm not big on journalling, its something I struggle with but for this page I've included it on the back of the layout. It says "The past few years have been a journey of discovery for me ... I never thought my journey would lead me to you".

Thanks for stopping by, until next time,

Kaye

Big Scary Mitchel - Sketchabilities #100

I've known about the Sketchabilities Challenge blog for a while now but this is the first time I've had a play with one of their sketches. It is sketch #100..
And here's my take on it ... The photo is of my fiance holding our security dog Mitch (or Mitchel as he is affectionately called). Mitch is a Blue Healer that was being trained for the oil search lines in PNG, but when our machines kept getting broken into and personal property began to get stolen (we live on site at Jonno's Crushing plant) Jonno purchased him from the trainer.
Everyone is scared of him and for good reason, when he is in his yard if he doesn't know you then you won't get in .... but outside his yard he's just a big cuddle pup! And although he is a working dog and there to do a job, we still treat him like one of our pets.

The paper I've used is some old Graphic 45 from my stash along with some Kaisercraft from my paper scraps box. The chip board is some yummy ScrapFX I picked up on the weekend. When I went to do the title, I realised, much to my disgust that I didn't have and "h" in the chipboard font I wanted to use ... so I used the shape from where the last "h" was taken and drew around it ... Well they say necessity it the root of all invention!!!
I'm not big on journalling, it's something I have to work on, but I wanted to explain the story behind the title so I've included some hidden journalling on the back of this tag tucked under the photo.
Well that's all for now. Thanks heaps for stopping by.

Until next time,

Kaye :-)

1-2-3 October Challenge - Your Love Give My Heart Wings!

Well I think I'm hooked! The ladies over at 1-2-3 Challenge Blog have come up with another inspirational challenge for the month of October. The three components of the challenge are...
I don't normally use a lot of yellow when I scrap but this months challenge inspired me as soon as I saw it. Here's my take on it ...
I've used some older Websters Paper from my stash along with white  Bazzel Swiss dots card. The Glimmermist spray is "Apple" which came out a great yellow colour. The photo is of my gorgeous boy and I who get married in 4 weeks time.
These are a couple close ups of the title (above) and the flower cluster (below).
I had so much fun playing with this months challenge and I can't wait to see next months challenge.

Thanks for stopping by,

Kaye :-)

A Little Catchup

Aside from my challenge pages I haven't updated my blog much of late so I thought I'd do a quick update.

Made With Love

This is a canvas I made for my MIL for Mothers day this year. I've used a 3"x3" canvas, along with Collections chipboard, butterflies and paper.

Tranquility

Next up is a canvas I made using a photo I took at Inskip Point, Rainbow Beach, last year while we were camping. The shells and driftwood were collected on the beach while we were there... Scattered in between the shells and driftwood are a few Scrapmatts chipboard shells.

Make a Wish

My fiance' and I are born two days apart, so this year we had a combined birthday party. We went with a "Pirate/Mask" Themed cocktail party ..... it was a fantastic night! These are the pages I did using the photos from that night.
This page "Make a Wish" is of me blowing out the cake...
The second page is a collage of photos of the night....

In These Eyes

This page is of Tux, he is our American Staffy. Tux came into our life last year as a foster dog.... and ended up a "foster fail" ... he's now one of our family.

Puppy Love

The last page is of our Aussie Bulldogs when they were puppies... they are such cuties!
I used some really old Prima paper I had in my stash along with some beautiful  Dusty Attic chipboard.
Well, that was a marathon effort .... thanks for stopping by.

Until next time ...

Sweet Memory

My friend Susan recently put me on to a fun challenge site called 1-2-3 Challenge Blog, unfortunately I missed the August challenge but last night inspiration struck! The challenge for September is ....

 Here's my take on it...
 Here's a couple close ups to ...

For this layout I raided my stash of older My Minds Eye papers .... these just seemed to go with the photo of me aged 4, perfectly. The definition of "Memory" is a Stampit Stamp on parchment paper.

Thanks for stopping by, I'll be back later with a few other pages I've done recently.

Cheers,

Kaye
