Peaceful Heart

Hi Everyone,

Today its my turn to share some of my DT work over on the Colour Blast blog. It is a layout I created while playing with the Colour Blast Shimmer Sprays and Shimmer Embossing Powders.

Now everyone knows the usual ways of using embossing powders so I wanted to find the unusual ways ..... and I'm pretty pleased with the outcome.

The title of my page is " The Peaceful Heart finds Beauty in all things", its an old Dusty Attic Chipboard title that I had in my stash that suited the photos perfectly.

For this page I've used two of my favourite colours 'Rose Petal' & 'Envy'. I started by placing a Kaisercraft die on the page to act as a stencil, then I sprayed it twice with 'Rose Petal', drying with the heat gun between applications, to get a more intense colour. I then removed the die and dribbled 'Envy' in random patches over the page.

Next I stuck down the patterned paper and positioned the background stamps randomly over the page.
Once I was certain that the sprays were dry I drew free-hand circles over the stencilled ones using a glue pen, sprinkled 'Rose Petal' Shimmer Embossing powder over them and then heated the circles with a heat gun to melt the embossing powder. I then added a little more glue in spots, place the beads on the glue and sprinkle 'Envy' Shimmer Embossing Powder over the beads.
Next the muslin cloth, photo and flowers were added. To add a  touch of shimmer to the flowers I brushed a little 'Snow White' Colour Shimmer Spray over them, being sure to get the brush down into the shimmer at the base of the bottle. Sadly it was hard to capture the shimmer in the photo ... so you'll just have to give it a go to see how amazing it looks!

Finally I melted two layers of 'Rose Petal' Shimmer Embossing Powder on the chipboard title, then added a few light dribbles of glue before sprinkling the 'Envy' embossing powder over it.

The following colours in Colour Blast Colour Shimmer Spray & Embossing Powders, were used in this project and can be purchased from the Colour Blast website or your local stockist.

Well thats all for now, thanks for stopping by.

Scrap Around the World Final Challenge

I was so gutted when I found out that December 2015 would be the final challenge for Scrap Around the World. It is a challenge site I've always enjoyed even if I haven't had the time in recent months to play along. Since it is to be the final month I knew I just had to give it ago. The mood board for the month was ...
When I saw it I just loved the colours. I had a great time creating the back ground using a fantastic new mixed media product called ColourBlast
I've used "Sunshine", "Apple of My Eye", "Rose Petal" and "Bling". I've then stamped butterflies using black Stazon.
To tone down the shimmer and intensity of the Colour Paste I sponged white Gesso over the top using some scrunched up plastic wrap. I added some washi tap and a photo and came up with the end result....
The inspiration for this page was "The Future is Bright" .... I couldn't help up use this photo of my friends helping me get ready on the morning of my wedding .... the future was indeed bright.

Heres a couple close ups of the various aspects of the page ...
This shows the flowers, they were plain white flowers which I have coloured using Colour Blast Paste watered down into a paint ... its a great way to use it as you retain the colour and the shimmer.

In this photo I've tried to capture the white shadow butterfly that I stamped using white ink slightly above the black butterfly, I also love the wording of the stamp above "of course you can fly for dreams have wings".
Colour Blast products are very high intensity colour and shimmer but unfortunately these photos don't do them the justice they deserve.

The following products have been used on this layout ...

  • Darkroom Door Rubber Stamp - Wings DDS091
  • IndigoBlu Rubber Stamp - Big Butterfly BB11
  • Kaiser craft Decorative Die
Well thats all for  now, thanks for stopping by.

Until next time,

Kaye :-)

Altered Book

A few weekends ago I went away to a Scrap Retreat, unfortunately I got a cold the first night there so my creative mojo wasn't at its best but I did create one piece that I was particularly pleased with. I'd always wanted to do an altered book but had never got up the courage to do it …. that is until I did a class with the wonderfully talented Sue Smyth at Scrap Elegance a few months ago. Drawing inspiration from that class I created the following from an old hard cover book called "What Katie Did".
As a base I covered the book with ColourBlast "Deep Water" paste, once that was dry I dry brushed black Gesso over it and then wiped the excess off using a wet wipe. The rest of the decorations came from my stash, some old Dusty Attic chipboard, a Collections angel, Kaisercraft door knob and 7 Gypsies brass corners.

Once I was happy with the outside I started on the inside …
I carefully measured where I wanted the "box" section to be then cut it out with a sharp craft knife. Once it was cut out I glued the pages together to make the box. The butterflies are Collections butterflies from my stash (sadly I can't seem to find them in stores now so if anyone knows where I can get them let me know). I've then used ColourBlast "Leather" paste and have brushed its around the inside edges of the box and around the outside edges of the pages to finish it off. I was surprised at how easy it was to create such a nice little piece.

Well, thanks for stopping by.

Until next time,

Kaye :-)

An Exciting New Adventure

Well its been a long while but I haven't disappeared completely. A few months ago I was honoured to be asked to join the design team for a fabulous new mixed media product called "Colour Blast" which has been developed by the clever Tenisha from Scrap Elegance Scrapbook Supplies  . There are currently 18 vibrant colours in the range with a spray, paste and embossing powder in each colour.

Heres a few of the projects I've been working on….

First Up is my design team page. On this page I've used the "Deep Water", "Leather" & "Sunshine" pastes through stencils and then I've brushed "Deep Water" onto the chipboard swirl over the photo using it as a paint. The beautiful shimmering colour across the page is the Colour Blast Spray in "Deep Water" & "Sunshine.

Next up is a layout of our beautiful bull Radar … one day while I was filling up their water he decided to get up close and personal with my phone :-)
For this page I've used "Leather" paste (one of my favourites) through a stencil, then I've sprayed "Apple of my Eye" and the embossing powder in the same colour on the title.

While the next few are canvases are all individual pieces they will eventually make up one wedding canvas, a bit like a patchwork quilt….

For the first one I've spread  "Envy" & "Lovely Lilac" pastes randomly across the canvas, I then brushed "Stormy Weather" over the chipboard Bricks, using it like a paint.
This canvas was simple but effective. I've used the "Snow White" paste through a stencil and then I've sprayed it with "Lovely Lilac", I love the effect it creates.
I love the effect achieved by brushing the "Snow White" paste over chipboard pieces and texture paste …. this photo doesn't do the shimmer justice.
Here I've painted the canvas with black Gesso, then I've used "Lovely Lilac" paste through a stencil.
This is a mini Canvas which didn't allow much area to play so I've used "Dusty Charcoal" paste as a paint over the oval frame.

We'll, thats all for now … stop by again soon to see a few more ways to use these amazing products.

Until next time,

Kaye :-)

123 Challenge - January Challenge

Here we go, last but not least, the last couple pages. The first one is based on the 123 Challenge pallet.
The colour is not one that I would normally use but I had fun with this page. I had a play with several products that I've had in my stash but hadn't gotten around to playing with and here's what I came up with.
Here's a couple close ups ….

The last page I created wasn't for a challenge, it was just a simple page using a very cute photo of the miniature cow we are buying from a friend of mine. The photo was taken when he was only 30 mins old…

Well, thats all for now, thanks for stopping by,

Kaye :-)

Stuck Sketches - January Sketch

Hi,

Back with another page from the weekend. This one was inspired by the Stuck Sketches January Sketch.
For this page I've used a very cute photo of our Aussie Bulldog, Macca. One day at smoko the boys were bored and decided to put a pair of "Mack" brand sunnies on Macca …. Macca wasn't impressed but it made for some very funny photos.

Here's my take on the sketch…
I've used Kaisercraft paper along with some yummy Dusty Attic chipboard. I also had great fun playing with my new Gellato's … I think I have found my new favourite product there.

Thanks again for stopping by, pop back later and I'll post the last two pages I did.

Scrap Around the World - January Mood Board

This past weekend I spent an amazing weekend with a great bunch of ladies at the Scrap Elegance retreat. It was great to have time to play and create.

One of the pages I created was inspired by the Scrap Around the World January Mood Board.
I just loved the colours and the sentiment in the wording, it inspired me to use one of my favourite wedding photos.
I used one of the new Kaisercraft paper ranges, added some Scrapmatts chipboard and some beautiful flowers.

Thanks for stopping by, I'll pop back later with some more creations from the weekend.
