Kindred Spirit - 123 Challenge - February Challenge

After about a week of playing I have finally finished my take on the February challenge from 123 Challenge Blog. I decided to go for a mixed media canvas instead of a page like I normally do and I had a ball doing it. Here's what I had to work with, the February Challenge .... Colour: Purple    Word: Spirit   Technique:  Texture
I thought it lent itself perfectly to mixed media, and here's what I came up with ...
I used another wedding photo, the purple went perfectly with it as my bridesmaids wore purple.
I think I went into texture over load, I've used Dusty Attic chipboard, muslin cloth, texture paste and Jo Sonya's Crackle Accent.

The colours I've used are all Tattered Angels Glimmermist's - Tattered Leather, Black Magic and Deep Plum. I love the effect of them once they are sprayed over the crackle accent.
And then I've added some metal embellishments to top it all off.

Well, that's all from me for now, thanks for stopping by.

Until next time.

"Totally Addicted to ..." - Once Upon A Sketch February Challenge

This months Once Upon A Sketch challenge had the theme of "Totally Addicted to ...".
I loved the sketch but I struggled with the theme, but then it came to me and this is what I came up with ...

Here's a couple close ups of the chippie, it's a little hard to see in the photos but I've used Jo Sonja's Crackle Medium then I brushed Silks Acrylic Glaze (Key Lime) over it. For the title I've painted it white using an Adirondak dabber then sprayed it with Glimmer Mist "Rum Raisin". I love the effect I ended up with, where the paint layer was thinner the Glimmer Mist soaked through more and gave the darker patches.

Like I said before, I struggled with the theme, until I heard a song by Avicii entitled "Addicted to You", when I looked up the words it just clicked ... they were perfect!

For the journalling I've used the first verse and chorus, it's a bit hard to see the words in the photo but they say:
"I don't know just how it happened, I let down my guard ...
Swore I'd never fall in love again but I fell hard.
Guess I should have seen it coming, caught me by surprise...
I wasn't looking where I was going, I fell into your eyes.

You came into my world like a cool and cleansing grace.
Before I knew what hit me baby you were flowing through my veins ...

I'm addicted to you! Hooked on your love,
like a powerful drug, I can't get enough of,
Lost in your eyes, drowning in blue
Outta control, what can I do?
I'm addicted to you!"

I was married at 18, and when I left my ex husband after 17 years of marriage I was determined to be single and travel the world, another relationship, let alone marriage was the last thing on my mind .... but right at the time my marriage ended I happened to come into contact with an old school friend I hadn't had any contact with for about 17 years ..... happily plans change, Jonno & I were married last November .... my lifelong friend to continue my life's journey with.

So, there's the story behind my inspiration. Thanks for stopping by and taking the time to read it.

Until next time,

Kaye :-)

I Don't Do Scotch! - Sketchabilities # 108

I love the beginning of the month .... all the new challenges are released!!!!! Yesterday I got inspired by Sketchabilitites # 108.

We recently received the disc of wedding photos from our photographer, she did such a beautiful job, I'm going to have a ball scrapping them all! Because the sketch had space to use 3 small photos I decided to use three of the series she took of us when we swapped drinks. Jonno had a hip flask that I gave him for the wedding full of Scotch and I had a glass of Champagne. I thought it would be funny to swap for the photo but Jonno said I had to take a swig ..... yeah, straight Scotch just isn't my thing!!!

Anyway, now you have the story behind the photos, this is where my inspiration took me
I've used one of the recent Kaiser Craft releases called Art of Life .... absolutely gorgeous! The main paper is "Paper Always" and the cream script print is called "Paper Creative".

To add a little more effect I've used a couple Kaiser Craft background stamps (No ... I'm not sponsored by Kaisercraft .... just have a lot of there products :-)) with clear ink that I've embossed with two different embossing powders.

On the other side of the page I've used Texture Paste over a script mask to add some dimension to the page.

Here's a close up of the photos and the journaling since its a little had to see in the other photos.

Well, that's all for now .... hopefully the inspiration continues 'cos I've got lots of lovely photos to scrap.

Until next time, thanks for stopping by.

Cheers,

Kaye :-)

Exquisite Beauty - Sketchabilities #106

The past few days the temperature has been through the roof but the up side is that it's encouraged me to stay inside in the aircon and scrap! Fortunately for me inspiration has hit.

The source of my inspiration this time was Sketchabilities #106...
And here's my take on it....
The photo I've used is of a Peacock which I took at McIntosh Island, Gold Coast in November. I edited the photo in Picasa to enhance the colours.

I had a lot of fun with this page, playing around with punches, glimmer mist, stamps and embossing powder to get the results I wanted. It's a little hard to see in the main photo but in these closeups you can see more detail of these techniques.

That's all for now, thanks for stopping by.

Until next time,

Kaye :-)

Family - January OUAS

The theme accompanying the January Once Upon A Sketch Challenge is "Lesson Learnt". As soon as I saw it I instantly thought of the photo I would use and how I would apply the theme. The photo I've used is of my two dear friends Bella and Susan taken on the morning of my wedding in November, Susan traveled all the way from Western Australia to the Gold Coast just to attend my wedding. Over the past few years Susan and Bella have helped me more than words can say, and I don't know where I would be without them. During this time I learned a very important lesson .... family are not simply those related to you by blood, they are those that stand by you through the bad times and the good.

Here's January's sketch ...
And here's my take on it ...
Some close ups of the journalling
and of the embellishments.

Well, that's all for now, although its so hot here today I'm not leaving the comfort of the air conditioning so hopefully I'll get another page finished.

Thanks for stopping by, until next time.

The Pirate King - Sketchabilities # 105

This time of year it seems near impossible to get pages completed before the challenge deadline. I missed out on the last Sketchabilities challenge so here's hoping I've got this one completed in time.

Here's the sketch that the page was based on ...
 And this is the page...
The photo I've used is from our combined birthday party this year which had a Pirate theme, Jonno went as the Pirate Captain and I was dressed as his Wench ... complete with long blond wig!

Once again I've raided my stash of old papers for this page as well as adding some embossing and inking to the pennants at the bottom of the photo.
The title has been cut on the Cricut using the "Black Letter" cartridge, I've then covered the letters with Ranger Crackle Accents to give it a crazy cracked look. The mask is Kaisercraft "Cogs" which I've sprayed with Glimmermist "Black Magic" & "Iridescent Gold". The gold chain and coins are from the bracelet I brought to wear as part of the costume ... and what do you do with jewellery you brought for a costume but will never wear again???? You use it on the page of the party photos!!!

Well, thats all for now. Thanks for stopping by.

Xmas Kiss - Sketchabilities #104

This page is based on the Sketchabilities sketch #104, unfortunately I didn't get this page finished in time to enter it but I was pleased with the end result so I decided to post it anyway.

This is the sketch I used ...
And here's my take on it...

The photo I've used was taken at "Slobberfest" the Bulldog fun day on 1 December 2012. Skye and Jay were 9 & 8 weeks old respectively. Skye had been with us for two weeks but we'd only brought Jay home two days before.

I've used corrugated cardboard box from a box we received parts in (much to my husbands amusement), I've then painted it with Gesso. I've used a mask and clear ink, then covered it with green embossing powder. The paper is an old Basic Grey Christmas range.

The snow flakes are Dusty Attic chipboard that I've painted white and then covered them with "Diamond Dust". The small leaves and berries was a little chipboard piece I had from somewhere that I've embossed with green and purple embossing powder. The flowers and leaves were just ones I had in my stash from various sources.

Well .... I better go and work on the next challenge so that its done in time to enter.

Thanks for stopping by.

Cheers,

Kaye
